ARIIS – Alliance for Research and Innovation in Health Industries
Created in 2010, ARIIS aims at decompartmentalizing private research and fostering synergies between pharma, medical technology, diagnosis tools, biotechnologies for human and veterinary use, as well as developing public/private partnerships in order to set up the best environment to enhance innovation. Unique in the world, ARIIS is a key asset for France competitiveness and attractiveness to foster the development of innovative products, i.e. from the idea to making it available to patients, bringing together all the actors of the health industry.
With the backing of the French Federation of Health Industries (FEFIS) which federates the twelve French health industry associations, ARIIS counts about fifty member companies.
As Aviesan’s privileged contact, ARIIS interacts with all stakeholders, training, informing and favoring dialogue and partnerships between scientists in research and innovation in order to:
- Build bridges between sectors with cultures that sometimes differ greatly
- Enhance visibility of research and development activities in France
- Identify and overcome obstacles to make France attractive for research and development activities
A General Commission in charge of the Future Investments Programme (PIA)
He ensures the coherence of the state’s investment policy and coordinates the work of the PIA operators which oversee its operational implementation (the French National Research Agency, ANR, in the field of higher education and research; the French Environment and Energy Management Agency, ADEME, for action related to the ecological and energy transition; Bpifrance for supporting businesses and industrial sectors; the Caisse des Dépôts; etc.), in close liaison with the relevant ministries.
An effective method of project selection and follow-up
The PIA consists of national calls for projects on future-oriented themes, prepared by the General Commissioner for Investment and his operators, with the aim of selecting outstanding teams (biotechnologies, basic research, smart grids, etc.). The projects are evaluated by a board of independent, highly skilled and sometimes international experts, who select innovative projects with significant growth potential.
The PIA also supports innovative projects at an industrial level, especially collaborative projects, in areas as wide-ranging as cloud computing, big data, smart grids, biotechnologies, green chemistry, marine energy, and so on.
